Okay guys, I’m pretty excited for this next costume. I’ve already showed you my peacock and burglar costumes, but I think this one might be my favorite. When I couldn’t think of a costume I wanted to wear for night 3 of Halloween, a couple of friends suggested we do a group costume! We brainstormed a few ideas, and then I had an epiphany… “We should be the three blind mice!” My friends were on board, and it was a done deal. Plus, it will probably the easiest costume I ever have to come up with.
We decided to take advantage of what we already own, and just wear black tank tops, black jeans, and black heels. Super simple, right? And help complete our transformation into blind rodents (pretty weird when you think about it), we will also add mouse ears, black sunglasses, and make a cane. We didn’t want to buy ears, so I found a DIY tutorial online and it looks pretty simple. All we will need is a headband, some cardstock paper, and black felt. We will also be making our canes. I was stumped trying to think of how to do this, but while perusing through Walmart I came across light-colored wooden dowels and decided they would be perfect! I’m really stoked to see how this one turns out, and will definitely share pictures of the completed look after we’ve done it!
Hi there! So for the second part of my last minute Halloween costume ideas (if you missed the first one click here!), I wanted to show you the second costume I will be doing. I had a lot of trouble coming up with what I wanted to do for my second and third costumes; and yes, I do know how ridiculous that sounds. It’s the college culture though, don’t blame me! Anyhow, after a lot of searching on Pinterest I decided that I’ll be a burglar! This one was super easy and I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it earlier.
For this costume, I figured I only needed to buy three things: a black and white striped shirt, a mask, and a burlap bag for my loot! I found the shirt online on Nordstrom.com (it was on clearance too), a mask at a local costume shop, and the burlap bags really cheap on Amazon. I’m pretty pleased with my purchases! In addition to this I plan on wearing black jeans and boots, and will cut the fingers off of a cheap pair of gloves I already own. Once I get the burlap bags in the mail (hopefully tomorrow!) I will use a sharpie to draw a money sign, officially transforming it into a loot bag! I’m really excited to see how it all comes together, tell me what you think!

Okay guys, I have a confession: I am not that into Halloween. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a fun holiday to celebrate, but I’ve never been one to go all out on the whole costume and dressing up thing. Maybe it’s because I wait until the last minute, but it seems that every year Halloween sneaks up on me and I get stressed out trying to find a costume. Even more so, at my college Halloween is really more of a weekend-long event. Translation?? Ideally, I should have at least two or three costumes.
While I didn’t wait until the very last minute this year, I was cutting it close. I did however come up with a few costume ideas that I think will be pretty fun and very simple. I thought I’d share what I was planning, and perhaps give you an idea or two in the process! I decided to break it up into three separate posts (one per costume), so that way I could share what I’m thinking without overloading you. So here is my first costume idea… A peacock!
Costume #1: Peacock
I’m a big fan of makeup, so for one costume this year I wanted to pick something that I could go a little crazy with. A peacock seemed like the perfect idea. Not only can I throw together the costume part of it pretty easily, but I could have fun thinking of some crazy makeup to do also! I have a royal blue, racer-back tank top that I purchased over the summer, so I decided to build the rest of my costume around that. Here’s what else I have planned
- Black leggings (it’s freezing here and I want to stay warm!)
- Black ankle boots
- Peacock hair piece (purchased on Etsy, you can find it here)
- Peacock necklace (I purchased this on Ebay. It seemed a little sketchy but worked out fine!)
- Peacock feather brooch-type accessory
- Crazy peacock makeup
So if I’m being honest I still don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing for the “brooch-type accessory.” I found some peacock feathers for sale at Michaels (I had a coupon too!), picked up some safety pins to hot glue to it, and will hopefully come up with something! I will keep you posted on how that comes along! Here are some of the pictures I got inspiration from. If you have any suggestions, share them below!
I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago about a book that I read recently and really liked. Since then, some how I’ve managed to read 2 more books, and decided to do a brief post on books that I would recommend!
“Bossypants” by Tina Fey. This book is hilarious, clever, and surprisingly insightful! I’m a huge Tina Fey fan so maybe I’m biased, but I really enjoyed it!
“Sh*t My Dad Says” by Justin Halpern. I’d heard a lot about this book in the last couple of years, and it exceeded my expectations. Beyond funny. A quick, lighthearted read.
“The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. This is one of the most incredible books I’ve ever read. It’s full of life lessons, and everyone should read it. As a bonus, here’s a video about it!
“All Work, No Pay” by Lauren Berger. This book is great for college students (targeted at females) looking to launch their careers! This girl has amazing tips and advice!
“Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn. I read this book over the summer, and holy smokes it is insane! And by insane I mean fantastic. I was hooked from the beginning, and though it’s a bit lengthy, I breezed through it in about 2 days. So good, I couldn’t put it down!
So there is my list! If you have read any of them tell me what you thought, and if not, you should check them out!
Or perhaps more of a confession 😉 Have a great week! Xoxo,
In my last post I mentioned how I thought I was coming down with a cold. Well I was right. And this is not a circumstance in which I’d like to be right. Anyways, I digress. As it turns out what I thought was a cold was actually a pretty severe sinus infection. I’ve never had one before, but after feeling sick for a day or so I noticed that my face was sore and my teeth hurt. This was super weird to me, so I used the handy-dandy (or terrifying, depending on the circumstance) WebMD to look up my symptoms, and it clued me in to the fact it might be a sinus infection. I went to urgent care the next morning and sure enough, the internet was right.
Anyways, I guess the point of all of this is that being sick is no fun. Not like you didn’t know that already 😉 I’m just trying to focus on resting for the next couple of days, and hopefully I’ll feel a bit better soon! Anyone out there have any tricks or remedies they swear by? Share them below!
Hi there! So this past weekend was “Dad’s Weekend” at my college, and I am so grateful that my dad was able to make it! Especially considering the recent events with my Grandma (his mom), I wasn’t sure if he would be able to attend. But he did and we had a blast! Instead of having a parent’s weekend every year, we have Dad’s Weekend in the fall and Mom’s Weekend in the spring. Honestly they are probably two of my favorite weekends every year, and it’s so fun to get some one-on-one time with my parents.
My dad got into town on Friday afternoon, and even though the weekend went by way too quickly, we were able to do a lot! On Friday we met up with some family friends, went out to dinner, and saw the movie “Captain Phillips.” It stars Tom Hanks as Captain Phillips, and is based on the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. Alabama by Somali Pirates. The movie was amazing, and I would highly recommend it! After we got done with the movie we met up some other friends at one of the local bars for a drink. This is the first time I’ve been able to go to the bars with my dad since I turned 21, and we had a great time!
The next morning we got up early to grab breakfast at a restaurant in the next town over. I had never been there before and it certainly exceeded our expectations! After breakfast we went to the driving range at the local golf course (my dad is a HUGE golfer), and after that just hung out for a bit. The rest of the afternoon was pretty much spent watching football (his alma matter was playing, even though it’s my school’s rival!), before heading to the game for my team. I even got him to wear our school colors, which was a big accomplishment! We decided to head home after the unfortunate loss of our football game, as I hadn’t been feeling well. I had been avoiding catching a pretty nasty cold, and it had finally caught up with me.
Unfortunately my dad had to leave really early the next morning to beat traffic on the drive home (it’s about a five hour drive), but we were able to make breakfast together first. I loved having my dad here for the weekend, and am only bummed that it went so fast! Since I’m graduating in the spring this was the last college Dad’s Weekend for us. Obviously I will get to hang out with him other times, but something about this weekend makes it all the more special. I love my dad very much, and am excited to see him again next month!
I hope you all had a great weekend! Xoxo,
The other day a few friends and I were discussing our favorite movies of all time. I am a movie fanatic, so it is really hard for me to narrow it down to just a few! But I thought about it, came up with a pretty good list, and figured I would write a post about it! These are not necessarily in the order that I like them, but without further adieu, here are my top picks!
- Jerry Maguire
- Sleepless in Seattle
- The Parent Trap (Lindsay Lohan version)
- Step Brothers
- My Girl
- Remember the Titans
- Forrest Gump
- Free Willy
- The Sandlot
- The Green Mile
So some of those probably seem pretty absurd (ahem, I’m talking to you Free Willy), but I love them so I don’t care. What are your favorite movies? Please share in the comments below, I’d love to know if we have any in common!
