Hi everyone! I hope that you all had a great Christmas, and are excited for 2014! I feel like I say this every year, but I can’t believe that Christmas has already come and gone. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great Christmas and was fortunate to spend it with my loved ones. BUT, I will say it felt a little different this year. I can’t put my finger on exactly why, though the best way I can describe it is that it almost didn’t feel like Christmas. And I feel so guilty saying that! Perhaps because I’ve been going, going, going lately, I wasn’t really able to prep for Christmas in the ways I normally do. I did a little baking, but not much. A watched a couple Christmas movies, but not that many. I decorated for Christmas, but not to the extent I normally do. You get the gist, right?
As part of our gift this year, my family took a trip to Disneyland (my favorite place on earth!) the week before Christmas. We had an amazing time, and I’m missing it like crazy! For the holiday itself, we spent it at my parent’s house with my Dad’s family, and drove down to Portland the next day to celebrate with my Mom’s side. I’m extremely close with my whole family, so it was a blessing to be able to see everyone!
I did receive a few snazzy gifts for Christmas this year, so I was thinking of maybe doing a sort-of haul about them here! What do you think? I feel like Christmas/Birthday/Other holiday hauls can sometimes seem braggy, and I in no way want to do that. But I am excited to share and perhaps do reviews about a few things! Be on the lookout for those. Have a great week everyone, and a happy new years!
Hope all of your holiday preparations are coming along smoothly! Merry Christmas!
Hi guys! Sorry I’ve been AWOL, but I swear I have a good (or bad, depending on how you look at it) excuse. My computer crashed, and right in time for my finals too. Remember that post about how I have crazy bad luck? Yeah, well that struck again. Last Sunday, the day before I had a final and two final projects due, my computer crashed while I was studying. Le sigh. Luckily I have a super techy friend who was able to recover some of the files I needed! He seriously saved my life. Luckily again, the part in my computer that malfunctioned was a relatively easy fix, and I was able to get it fixed pretty promptly upon getting home for break.
So I suppose that long rant was just to tell you why I haven’t posted in a while, and to let you know that I should be back to somewhat frequent posting from here on! I hope you guys have had a fabulous past week or so, and that this week is going well for you too!!!
Hi there! So in the sake of full disclosure, I feel it’s only fair to warn you guys that this post will be a little bit of a downer!
Today I wanted to share something with you all that is definitely a little different than my typical blog content. Several years ago, I saw an Oprah episode that that had to do with puppy mill busts. Now at the time I had no previous knowledge of what a puppy mill was, but after watching the episode I was disgusted and heartbroken to not only learn, but also see what they were. For those of you who do not know, puppy mills are large-scale commercial dog breeding operations where profit takes priority over the well being of the dogs. The best analogy I can think of to describe a puppy mill is a dog-breeding factory.
The sole purpose of these places is to make money. Unlike responsible breeders, breeding at puppy mills is performed without consideration of genetic quality, which results in generations of dogs with unchecked hereditary defects. Additionally, Puppy mills usually house dogs in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, without adequate veterinary care, food, water and socialization. Puppy mills also contribute to pet overpopulation, and cause countless dogs lifetimes of suffering in squalid wire cages. Though puppies are often sold to pet stores, and then sold again to owners from there, the dogs used for breeding purposes will spend their entire lives in these horrible facilities. Additionally, they are bred frequently and without proper time in between litters to recover.
As the saying goes, knowledge is power. Though I do not in anyway expect this blog post to shut down puppy mills, I do hope to bring awareness to this issue. I think a lot of people are unaware or simply misinformed about this issue, and I hope to present the facts and statistics in an easy to understand manner. Additionally, I believe that if people know about what goes on in these places, they will be less inclined to support them.
If you want to learn more about puppy mills, I would highly recommend checking out the Humane Society of the United States’ website, or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They have some great information, and I know that I personally learned a lot from their sites.
I stumbled upon this video recently on UpWorthy, and thought I would share. For some reason it won’t let me embed the video here, but follow the link below and you will find it!
Isn’t she adorable?!? I hope you’re having a great weekend! Xoxo,
I have seen tag posts and videos going around blogs and YouTube for years, but have never thought to do one (mostly because I’ve never been tagged). However, the Sweater Weather Tag looks really fun, plus I love that it is fall/winter themed, so I decided to do it anyways!
- Favorite Candle Scent?
Hmm, I’m pretty picky about candle scents so this one is tricky. Plus I have a bunch that I love! I was given a “Reserve Black Gardenia” candle for my birthday this year that I’ve been burning lately, so I guess that would be my current favorite!
- Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?
Most definitely coffee, I am absolutely obsessed and addicted to the stuff. I have a drip coffee every morning (I invested in a Keurig this year and love it!) with a little bit of vanilla creamer. But if I’m at Starbucks a caramel macchiato is my go-to drink.
- Do you switch up your makeup routine for the season?
A little bit but not too much. I’ve been doing a slightly different foundation routine lately as I’ve been breaking out more than usual. In terms of eye makeup, I might play up silvers and charcoals more, but it really depends on the occasion and where I’m going.
- Hats or scarves?
Scarves for sure. I am obsessed with scarves (I probably own at least 20), and wear them all year round. But I especially love wearing warm/comfy sweaters in the fall, as opposed to “fashion scarves.” I recently bough this infinity scarf from Old Navy and love it! As for hats, I have an odd shaped head and they look ridiculous on me. I’ll lean more towards earwarmers or a knit headband if I need to stay warm.
- Most worn sweater?
This one is literally impossible for me to answer. I wear a sweater almost every day, so I rotate through them pretty frequently! But today I wore a pale green, knit sweater and it was so cozy. So that was my most worn sweater today 😉
- Must have fall nail polish?
Hmm, I this is a tough one two. I have a grey and deep purple one I really love, but I’m currently wearing “Hot Cocoa” by Savina, and am digging it! It’s an earthy brownish purple (I know that doesn’t sound cute, but trust me) and have gotten lots of compliments on it.
- Football games or jumping in a pile of leaves?
Probably football games. I do love jumping in a pile of leaves, but I don’t have a yard here, and if I’m being idea the idea of bugs in the leaves sort of freaks me out. Over both of these options though I would pick walking on crunchy leaves on the sidewalks!
- Skinny jeans or leggings?
Leggings, easy. There’s just something about leggings, boots, a comfy sweater and a scarf that I adore! And is perfect for fall/winter.
- Boots or Uggs?
Boots for sure (see previous answer). But I will admit to wearing Uggs around my freezing cold apartment.
- What is your #1 Favorite thing about fall and/or winter?
I know it’s a cop out but I really can’t just pick one thing! For winter it’s obviously Christmas, but there are so many things I love about fall! I love fall clothes, drinking warm drinks, the leaves changing, crisp air, scarves, and the general “cozy” feeling!
- Do you have a song that gets you in the fall mood, or just a song you’re loving at the moment?
Not just one, although I do actually love the song “Sweater Weather” by the Neighbourhood. I think John Mayer and Coldplay are great music picks for fall!
- What is the fall/winter weather like where you currently live?
I’m going to answer this one for where I go to school, not where I am from. Fall here is pretty cold, but not too bad. The trees change gorgeous colors and we don’t get too much rain. Now that we’ve transitioned more into winter though, it’s a different story. Winters are cold here, but this week has been absurd! The temperature high for the week has been right around 18 degrees (Fahrenheit), and yesterday it was -2 when I walked to campus at 9:00 am! It was awful, and it has never been this cold since I’ve gone to school here. Plus it snowed on Monday, so now that is completely frozen over and the whole town is an icy mess.
So that’s it! I hope you enjoyed, I had fun writing it! Xoxo,
Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and were able to enjoy the holiday with your friends and family! It was so nice to have a week off from school, and to be able to relax and hang out with my loved ones. I certainly have a lot to be thankful for!
I am so excited that it is officially December! Christmas time is probably my favorite time of year, and I can’t believe it’s already upon us. I thought it could be fun to do a post talking about some of the things I’m excited for this month, and what better day to do one than December!
- It is now socially acceptable to listen to Christmas movies! Confession: I’ve been listening to it since the day after Halloween anyways.
- It is also now socially acceptable to watch Christmas movies: Confession #2: I’ve been watching them since the day after Halloween anyways too.
- Christmas is only 24 days away!
- Putting up Christmas decorations (and decorating the tree)
- This semester is almost over! This one’s bittersweet actually, but I’m relieved to be done with all my final projects and exams.
- I am going to Disneyland with my family once I finish up finals and head home. One of the only things I love more than Christmas is Disneyland, so I’m pretty stoked to go to Disneyland at Christmastime
- I will have almost 5 weeks of Christmas break before I have to go back to school
- I get some quality time with my family
- I get to hang out with my Dog, Lexi!
- I will be able to see all of my friends from home, even one of my best friends who goes to school in Scotland
- I get to sit by the fire and drink hot cocoa once I get home (I don’t have a fireplace at my apartment here, it’s a bummer!)
- We get to celebrate my best friends birthday
- We get to celebrate my mom and younger brother’s birthday too!
- I can bake lots of yummy treats
- I get to go shopping for Christmas presents (I love buying presents for other people)
- I get to wrap said presents (I also love wrapping presents!)
- I will be able to hang out in Seattle, and also visit Portland and Vancouver, BC!
- My friends and I are planning on giving food to the homeless downtown, inspired by this video. I can’t wait!
- There’s a good chance we’ll get snow this year!
- New Years Eve
What are you looking forward to? Xoxo,
Happy week before Thanksgiving everybody!
So today I have a pretty random post for you all. While brainstorming what I wanted to write about, I thought it could be cool to do something travel related. I thought I could write about places I’ve been, but instead I decided to do something about the places I want to travel to instead! While I have traveled outside of the country (I’ve been to Canada, Mexico, and a few places in the Caribbean), I’ve never been to a different continent and I desperately want to. I actually have a long list of places I want to visit, and figured I would share some with you!
Don’t they look amazing?! I want to to to all of them so badly! If you’ve been to any of them let me know, or share where you want to travel to! Xoxo,
Last night a group of friends and I decided to have a little early Thanksgiving dinner. Really there isn’t anything “little” about Thanksgiving, but you get the gist. Anyways, I’ve heard of people having “Friendsgivings” for years, and was so excited that I finally got to partake in one! Does that mean I’m officially a grown up?
My friend Amy was the one who came up with and hosted the event, because somehow she won a Turkey and wanted to use it. We decided to make it potluck style, and each picked something to bring. I loved to bake so I decided I would contribute pies for the event. Honestly, I’ll take any excuse to bake something 😉
Everything was so yummy, and we actually had a pretty impressive spread for a bunch of college students. It was so great to be able to have a sit down dinner with all of our friends! It is sort of weird though that actual Thanksgiving is still two weeks away, I feel like I’ve already crossed it off of the holiday checklist. What are your plans for thanksgiving?
